From The Editor: The Mal-Adjusted Handbag
I have to admit, I just love my Botkier Bag, the structured shape, the gold hardware, the functionality, and bright red lining. My bag is often the subject of intriguing stares and appreciative “oohs” and “ahhs”. At the cost of $600 plus tax I do admit the bag was quite a splurge, however considering the bags durability, practicality, and style-ability it was well worth the almost squeamish price tag. That is, I er say, until I open the bag. The inside my prized handbag is another and perhaps less enchanting story. It's a story of struggle and desperation. The quarter which completes the tally for local train fare, the keys I can hear when I shake the bag but any hands just can't seem to locate as I stand in the pouring rain, juggling the umbrella with one arm and my handbag in the other, the ringing and vibrating blackberry, which is so big, it couldn’t possibly get lost... Oh and why we’re on the topic, why on earth is this bag so heavy?
The ironic thing about this bag is that there isn’t much in there. Well not much that would actually come in “handy” and if albeit there was something that was quite handy. I would neglect to find it in the minefield that has become my shoulder’s coat of armor. Well over the weekend, I was in the market for purchasing a new handbag. As you are well aware, finding a new handbag is quite an obstacle. The “right" handbag, must be just the right size, not too big, not too small, have zipper or button closure, have interior compartments; but not at an OCD level.
I was two steps away from snagging a Cole Haan Sabra Canvas Tote when suddenly it dawned on me. “It won’t matter how fabulous my bag is on the outside; if it continues to be disarray and the subject of so many of my daily headaches”. In order to have an organized bag I was going to have to in fact employ some level of organization. Yes, I had to in-effect lay the foundation of a well organized handbag. The foundation is all in the details. So this time, instead of blaming my most noted fashion accessory for my lack of organization, I decided to keep my handbag and instead invest in a functional wallet, larger cosmetic case and as comical as it sounds, a change purse?Hey, isn't it time we all stopped missing phone calls while rumbling through our purses to find our car keys?
